artHARARE is pleased to present an exhibition that celebrates the enduring legacy of Shona Stone Sculpture while embracing a bold evolution into the contemporary art world.

This exhibition juxtaposes the masterpieces of renowned sculptors Bernard Matemera, Nicolas Mukomberanwa, Boira Muteki, and Henry Munyaradzi with the innovative works of a new generation of contemporary Zimbabwean artists who are Shona. Through these contrasts, the exhibition highlights how traditional techniques and themes, deeply rooted in cultural and spiritual narratives, have inspired contemporary artists to experiment with form, material, and meaning.

It examines the dynamic dialogue between past and present, showcasing sculptures that honour heritage while boldly reimagining the possibilities of sculpture.

This exhibition invites the audience to explore the timeless artistry of Shona sculpture and witness its transformation into a contemporary language that speaks to today’s global art discourse.

artHARARE stands as the nexus for experiencing contemporary art practice from Zimbabwe and its Diaspora. We are specialists in contemporary visual arts from Zimbabwe and curate and showcase groundbreaking contemporary artworks by a selection of leading visual artists.
