Cocktail event with wine and canapes while celebrating and sharing the opening of the first Rupert Museum pop-up exhibition at Merchants on Long, "Jean Lurçat - The Song of Tapestry".
The exhibition brings together an intimate selection of tapestries and ceramics by the popular French Modernist - Jean Lurçat (1892-1966). The exhibition will be on show at Merchants on Long from 17 - 22 February 2025.
Rupert Museum is home to a superb collection of modern South African art from 1940 to early 2000.
It houses the unique and private art collection started by the Late Dr Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte Rupert in the 1940s. A South African businessman, philanthropist and conservationist, Anton Rupert, together with his wife, Huberte, were prominent figures in support of the visual arts, as well as promoting education, music and the preservation of historical buildings.
South African concept store Merchants on Long celebrates and promotes the best of what the African continent has to offer. Opened in 2010, the store has evolved into an international platform for both emerging and established brands from around the continent, including award-winning brands Maxhosa Africa, Sindiso Khumalo, Lukhanyo Mdingi, Rich Mnisi and Mmuso Maxwell.
