Art Walk with Moffat Takadiwa: Sustainably Shaping Africa's New Visual Language

February 22, 2025
5:00 – 6:00 PM
Cape Town International Convention Centre
Lower Long Street 1, 8001, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

A guided Art Walk led by Moffat Takadiwa exploring the innovative use of recycled materials, highlighting how artists from Africa incorporate found objects and materials into their practice to convey new meanings rooted in their unique socio-political landscapes.

Drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking work of Ghanaian artist El Anatsui, more artists across the continent are turning to locally sourced materials, crafting narratives that reflect a distinctly African context. In doing so, they move away from Western-influenced practices such as oil painting, championing a sculptural movement that is both contemporary and deeply connected to the realities of today.
